If you don’t already layer your skin care, it’s a good idea to start. Dermatologists say that layering your skincare products that are formulated to complement each other can often provide enhanced benefits and results.
One of the most common questions our aestheticians at Skin Deep are asked is, “In which order should I apply my skincare products?”
The following is an easy guide to layering your skincare products:
1 – Begin by cleansing and prepping the skin with leave-on toners.
Skincare products will absorb easier and work better when applied to clean dry skin. Toners can be used as a secondary cleanser but their primary job is to make your skin the correct pH balance. One of our biggest sellers is Obagi Nu-Derm Toner. Just to reiterate, your other products will perform much better with this extra step.
2 – Add an antioxidant.
Vitamin C is an important ingredient that is beneficial to all skin types. It brightens and supports collagen production. The Vitamin C complex is appropriate for all skin types including people with sensitive skin.
3 – Moisturize.
Moisturizing is a key step when layering your skincare products because it helps to provide an occlusive (meaning a protective seal over skin, locking in hydration) barrier over your light creams and serums which can help drive in key ingredients of your other products.
4 – Protect and defend.
A sunblock is the last step in your morning regimen. Physical blocks are an option; chemical free sunscreens provide broad spectrum protection for all skin types including the most sensitive. These should always be applied last when layering your skincare products, as the block sits on your skin to provide ultimate protection.
Good luck and good skincare!
